Image Recording Formats (Shooting Specs)

FOX Entertainment requires that each production maintains the following standards when recording picture for all FOX projects. These requirements are established to help maintain the integrity of the the image and preserve it's quality for future use. If you are unable to follow these requirements, please reach out.
Recording Codecs
- Camera "RAW" or least compressed camera format available is required
- High Density Encoding (HDE) for ARRIRAW is recommended
- Intraframe codecs with 4:2:2 or greater color-sampling are acceptable if a "RAW" Uncompressed format is unavailable. These include:
- ProRes 422HQ or ProRes4444
- MXF
- XAVC
Frame Rates
Base Rate
- The FOX standard base frame rate is 23.976 FPS (23.98)
- 29.97 FPS, 25 FPS (PAL), or 59.94 FPS may be used with prior approval
- Only Progressive-scan will be accepted (No Interlaced!)
Record Rate
- Off-speed footage frame rate recoded in even multiples of the base rate preferred (eg. 23.976 x 2 = 47.952)
Timecode
- Timecode must be embedded in the media files
- Jam-sync timecode at the start and mid-day of each production
Color Space
Gamut
- Camera native, scene-referred (eg. RedWideGamutRGB, Arri Widegamut, S-Gamut3.cine, etc.)
Gamma
- Camera native, scene-referred log (eg. Arri Log-C, S-log3, Log3C10, etc.)
White Point (color temperature)
- Stay within camera manufacturer's preferred range
Bit Depth
- 10bit or greater (12bit required for HDR)
Dynamic Range
- For HDR: record with cameras that have the widest dynamic range
Resolution and Framing
Minimum Resolution (Spherical Lens)
- Scripted: UHD 3840x2160
- Unscripted: HD 1920x1080
Framing Best Practices
- Please shoot a framing chart at the start of every production
- It's important to account for the proper crop factor, sensor cropping, and lens coverage when selecting a recording resolution. Please seek approval for Anamorphic lenses.
- Always protect for 16x9. Some projects may also require other protective areas.

- 240Mbps for 23.976 FPS
