Audio Guidelines
Picture Master Audio
- All audio mixes must be digitally delivered or delivered on a hard drive in .wav format with the Pro-Tools session files included on the disc. All audio mixes in must be continuous timecode 24bit 48Khrz. All audio tracks are to be consolidated (flattened).
Use 79dB spl or 82dB spl as your standard reference level for mixing (depending on the size of the stage is mixing on)
Meet a -24 LKFS (+/- 2 LU) dialog-gated using ITU-R BS.1770-1 measured over the entire program.
Maintain +18db (-2 dBFS) maximum level (true-peak) over reference of -20 dBFS, achieved by peak limiting and not lowering the mix level.
Fully Filled Music & Effects
The Fully Filled Music and Effects must be completely filled for International Distribution. This must not be just a combination of the Effects and Music Mixed stems but must be a combination of the Fully Filled Effects stem and the Music stem. Fully Filled M&E refers to:
All physical action by characters and extras.
All footsteps that can reasonably be expected to be heard from the POV of the camera.
All hand gestures faithfully reproduced, i.e.: hands on tables, legs, arms, sides, clapping, slapping, etc.
All props for example, i.e.: paper, dishes, keys, etc.
All sounds in the domestic mix not included in the domestic effects stem. If sounds are in the domestic mix and the domestic effects stem, then they must be at a comparable level. Examples include: applause, traffic, car interiors, industrial sounds, baby cries, dog barks, ambiences, etc.
- ME & Optional ME
- If there are any non-language mouth sounds - kissing, baby cry, screaming, groaning, coughing, grunting, breathing, chewing, sipping, etc. are separate from dialogue, please provide ME with all mouth sounds, and optional ME with all sound effects except the mouth sounds.
- Optional Track
Walla and non-language specific crowd noises, reactions, cheers to be included in the M&E. Any distinct and/or discernable lines of dialogue or crowd chants should be removed from the walla or crowd stems and instead be provided on the optional track.
On-screen singing of discernable language, should not be included on the M&E. If possible, the singing would split from the background music. If the discernable language singing is split out from music and not overlap with dialogue, the singing should reside on the dialogue track. On-screen singing mixed with or without music should be provided on the optional track.
Background music, with or without lyrics, not synced with on-screen performance should be included within the M&E.
B-roll of TV, Movie or Radio content with discernable language should not be part of the M&E and should be provided on the optional track.
Native/Foreign language, even if not meant to be understood by the characters, should not reside mixed in the M&E. All foreign language should be provided on an optional track.
